Protect the Vote!

Just two weeks after the election that cinched President Obama’s second term, Scott Walker, Governor of Wisconsin is already trying to implement policies that will restrict the vote by 2016. Republican strategy of ‘cheat & lie’ is a never-ending one and these fellas don’t seem to be working with much else. When your actual policies stink, I guess it is the only way. It’s up to us to make sure, again, that their plans do not work.
It’s unbelievable to me the depths to which some will go to disenfranchise citizens in our democracy. It’s a long-fought battle that continues today. Those who have anti-democratic intent are not the majority and they will be stopped, must be stopped from achieving their insidious goals.
This letter from “No More Stolen Elections campaign lists instances of voter fraud & intimidation in this past election cycle and what can be done to prevent in the future.

No more stolen elections!
What impact did systemic electoral fraud and abuse have on the 2012 election?

Throughout the country we received reports of widespread disenfranchisement, malicious voter suppression, and the use of faulty, un-auditable electronic voting machines. In some areas, like the Maricopa County, AZ sheriff’s race, counting is still taking place and more evidence is emerging that electoral dysfunction may affect the final outcome

We were not alone in observing these trends.  In fact, the whole world knows how that U.S. elections are undemocratic. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights has called for action in its post-election report, noting that, “further steps should be taken to improve the electoral process, in areas such as  voting rights, the accuracy of voter lists, campaign finance transparency, recount procedures, and access of international election observers.

The 2012 election has proven once again that our electoral system is fundamentally broken at all levels, and only a sustained voting rights movement has the power to fix it.
In 2001, the founders of the Liberty Tree Foundation, which sponsors No More Stolen Elections!, worked with other leading voting rights advocates to draft a  Voter Bill of Rights. This important document outlines broad and badly needed electoral reforms such as a constitutionally guaranteed right to vote, paper ballots for every voter, and an end to our “first-past-the-post” voting system, among other things.
In the coming weeks, we will be calling on individuals to both sign on to the  Voter Bill of Rights and spread the word far and wide. Only by beginning to organize now can we hope to achieve the change needed to protect future elections!
Sincerely,

Adam, Jolie and Sarah for the No More Stolen Elections! campaign
